Obituary of Jean Niblo

NIBLO, JEAN HILL (nee CRICHTON)March 26, 1946 – January 22, 2020Passed away in her sleep at age 73 at Traditions of Durham Retirement Community. Predeceased by her parents John and Williamina Crichton, brother David Crichton, and husband Frederick Niblo, she is survived by her son Andrew and brother James.A lover of sport, music, and above all time spent with loving friends and family, Jean was energetic, kind, and lighthearted. Born in Glasgow, she lost her father at age 4 and left school at 16 to begin working. She moved to Canada at age 19 with friends, and worked as a bookkeeper and later an accountant. She met her husband, Eric, in 1971 and they were married in May 1973. Their only child, Andrew, was born in September 1984 and they lived in Scarborough for the next 20+ years. Jean and Andrew lost Eric to cancer in December of 2000. She would later move to Whitby to get closer to the golf course and to all the friends who would join her there. After her retirement she volunteered for Royal Ashburn Golf Club, and Lakeridge Health between many games of golf and curling. She attended the joyful wedding of Andrew and his wife Rebecca in August of 2019. Over the years she has gathered together a wide circle of adoring friends and will be missed dearly, and remembered with warmth and humour. In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing to honour her memory are encouraged to do so by donating to the Canadian Cancer Society or to a charitable cause of their choosing.
