Obituary of Ben Shepherd

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Feb. 4 at Grace Community Fellowship in Eugene for Ben Harold Shepherd of Veneta, who died Jan. 23 of polycythemia. He was 71.He was born Sept. 20, 1940, in Huntington Park, Calif., to Benny and Nelle Brookover Shepherd. He married Nancy Steele on July 11, 1960, in Bell, Calif.He held a nursing degree and worked as a firefighter for the city of Los Angeles.Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Rhonda Zaludek of Eugene and Kristi Smith of Albany; a son, Greg of Eugene; a sister, Beverly Taylor of Roseburg; and 10 grandchildren.Private burial will be at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene.
