Obituary of Joan Alfreda Alarie

It is with sadness we announce the passing of Joan Alfreda Alarie (nee Eckebrecht), age 97 on Wednesday January 15, 2020 at Hampton Terrace Long Term Care Home in Burlington Ontario. Loving wife of Percy Gerald Alarie.Joan was born October 16, 1922 in St. John New Brunswick. As a young girl Joan loved to dance and later was involved with Brownies as a Brown Owl in St. John New Brunswick and later became a Girl Guide Leader in Oakville. Joan met and married Percy while he was stationed in Halifax with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Second World War. They lived in St. John New Brunswick, Montreal Quebec, Windsor Ontario, finally calling Oakville home in 1956. Joan turned her passion of dancing into a Dance School starting in the Oakville home. The Alarie School of Dance ran for 50 years.Predeceased by husband Percy, brothers Louie and John. Loving mother of Patricia Corbett (Jim) and Michael Alarie (Debbie). Proud grandma of Christopher, Andrew, Carly and Jeremy.Great grandmother of Kacie, Colton, Payton and Easton.Many thanks to the staff at Hampton Terrace, Burlington. We appreciate the loving care you gave our mother.Visitation will be held at Glen Oaks Funeral Home, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville (at Dundas St.)905-257-8822 on Friday January 24, 2020 from 12-1pm. Funeral Service will be held at 1pm in the Funeral Chapel. Burial to follow at Glen Oaks Cemetery. A reception will take place in the Glen Oaks Reception Lounge following the burial.
