Obituary of Harry Martin

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, at Springfield Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home for Harry C. Martin of Springfield, who died Jan. 30 of age-related causes. He was 96. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.He was born Aug. 5, 1915, in Fayette, N.D., to William and Rosa Knabe Martin. He married Deborah Lever on Oct. 20, 1951, in McMinnville. She died Oct. 25, 2001.He attended schools in North Dakota. He was in the Civilian Conservation Corps from April 1937 to April 1939.He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a mill worker at Eugene Plywood, a custom farmer in Springfield, owned a local peat moss company, owned and operated Martin’s Trucking in Springfield and owned and operated the Chevron Station at 42nd and Main streets in Springfield.Survivors include a daughter, Sherry Lessard of Springfield. He was preceded in death by a son, James Martin, on Nov. 2, 2007.Entombment will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Remembrances to Salvation Army.
