Obituary of Alvin Stafford Girard

It is with heavy hearts that we announce that on the evening of January 12th, Al slipped away peacefully surrounded by his loving family; he was 83. Predeceased by his parents Nita and Henry Girard. Survived by loving partner Anne Davidson and her family. Loving father of Susan Hitchcock (Bill), Donna Andrews and Sandy Girard (Mike Lefebvre) and remembered by their mother, Mirrieme Girard. Adoring grandfather to Lindsay Hitchcock (Cole), Laura Hitchcock, Tammy Chartrand (Shane), Mitchell Andrews, Alex Poloni and Russ Poloni. Al also had the pleasure of meeting his first great grandchild Tracey Chartrand. Predeceased by his brother George Girard and his sister-in-law Shirley and will be forever missed by sisters Lila McCleave (Ivan), Ruth Harding, Agnes Girard, Jean Lapointe (Yvon), Eleanor Woods, Linda Conroy (John) and his brother Jim Girard (Karen). Also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cherished friends and his furry friend Benji. While we mourn his loss, we will always treasure his caring nature, quiet confidence and our many precious memories of him; he will live on in our hearts forever. Special thanks to Dr. Drake and Dr. Champagne of the Carleton Place hospital, the excellent nursing staff on the second floor, and all of the home care nurses for their amazing support.Family and friends are invited to a celebration of Al’s Life on Monday, January 20th at the Capital Funeral Home & Cemetery, 3700 Prince of Wales Drive, Ottawa, Ontario. Visitation will take place from 12:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to The Carleton Place and District Memorial Hospital Foundation or to a charity of your choice.
