James CallahanA visitation will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene, for James R. Callahan of Springfield, who died Feb. 5 of age related causes. He was 84. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, at Musgrove Family Mortuary.He was born Oct. 10, 1927, in Milwaukee, Wis., to James and Josephine Ries Callahan. He married Marilyn Mester on June 27, 1953, in Milwaukee.He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a Springfield police officer for 32 years. He retired as the last lieutenant that the police department had in 1989.Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Maureen Callahan of Springfield and Mary Rodriguez of Springfield; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.Private burial will be at Springfield Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene. Remembrances to Springfield Police Department K-9 Unit.
