Obituary of Gladys Johnson

A service and reception celebrating the life of Gladys LaVerne Johnson will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City, Oregon. She died February 14, 2012 at the age of 80 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Portland, Oregon on September 6, 1931, to Vernon Christopher Wetteland and Gladys May Scott. She graduated from Triangle Lake High School. She married Maurice Dean Johnson on July 13, 1951, and had five children, nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she maintained a beautiful home and enjoyed all family activities, especially camping at the beach, daily walks and her time with Dean and her little dog Muffin. She thoroughly enjoyed her grandchildren and spent many hours playing board games and following their sports or other activities. From November through February she transformed their home with an elaborate Dickens Village collection. She was interested in current events and could speak on most any topic with enthusiasm. Survivors include her husband Dean; her children Deb Johnson of Erwin, TN; Tom Johnson of Portland, OR; Wendy Kindle of Oakridge, OR; Lori Hawkins of Gold Beach, OR; Bob Johnson of Oakridge, OR; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Peg Lynch of Corvallis; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Mel Wetteland, and grandchildren Jon Kindle and Mandy Hawkins.
