Rosa De Laurentiis

Obituary of Rosa De Laurentiis

Rosa De Laurentiis (nee Cianci) died peacefully in her sleep. She was an incomparable daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother. Rosa was wise and loving, firm and tender, patient and generous. She made the world around her a comfortable, joyous place. Rosa loved nothing more than gathering her family around the dining table, feeding them their favourite dishes and engaging in lively, sassy conversation. At 23 she married the dashing Giuseppe and had three children, Giovanna (Peter), Sandra and Francesco (Janet). She lost baby Sandra to childhood diseases and felt the loss her whole life. In 1958 she left her loving parents Francesco and Maria to follow her husband to Canada, who like many young men in post-war Italy, had come to earn a living. She had two more children, Alessandra (Terry) and Mauro. She lost Giuseppe in 1994 and redirected her boundless energy to her garden and grandchildren – Julia, James, Mark, Michael, Katherine, Joseph and Sarita. She became great-grandmother to Frances in 2019. Her family, including her sister Cristina (Carlo) will treasure her life and memory. If desired, donations may be made to ShareLife or to Jessie's - The June Callwood Centre for Young Women
