Obituary of Nick De Bonis
Beloved husband of Alida, Adored son of Sara and John (pre-deceased). Cherished son-in-law of Clara and Hagop. Loving brother of Paula (George) and brother-in-law of Sebouh and Yeghish. Treasured uncle of Spiro and Kacey. Nick grew up in the city of Toronto where he enjoyed playing sports outside with his friends who eventually became lifelong companions. He had a love for music and as he grew up, most people in his building and neighborhood got to enjoy eighties and nineties rap music and hip hop, as he would play his favorite songs from the stereo in his bedroom. His love for music continued and in his teenage years, Nick purchased turntables and taught himself how to mix music….and so “DJ Nicky D” was born. After high school, Nick decided that he wanted to combine his love for cars with a profession that he could grow into for the long term. He studied mechanics at Centennial college and quickly began working in his field after graduation. He dedicated over fifteen years of loyal service at Newmarket Honda, where he was well respected by his management, colleagues and customers. Nick appreciated good food and always looked forward to family get togethers - especially when they involved lasagna and pizza. He adored cats and had a few of them as pets over the years. His most recent cat “T” was his favorite. His charisma and genuine nature, along with his bright smile, drew people to him. When Nick and Alida reconnected after being acquainted through mutual friends years earlier; Nick knew that Alida was the woman he wanted to share his life with and in 2018, they committed their lives to one another in marriage, surrounded by family and friends. They enjoyed traveling together, and Nick loved to spoil Alida by preparing special meals for her and surprising her with a hot chocolate and her favorite bagel on Saturday mornings. Nick was a determined person and he refused to let cancer bring him down. He was committed to a healthy lifestyle and educated himself on nutrition. He enjoyed sharing what he learned with his family and friends. Nick passed away peacefully on December 28, when his body became too weak to continue fighting his second battle with cancer. He leaves special memories that will forever be treasured by those who knew him and he will be deeply missed.
