Obituary of Loretta Ganong
Ganong, Loretta (nee Thompson)Passed away peacefully and with family in Oakville, Ontario on December 6, 2019 at the age of 92. Even though she spent most of her life in the GTA, she was always a Melville, Saskatchewan gal at heart! It was there in Saskatchewan that she met Earl and became his devoted wife and partner in life. Loretta is reunited with her husband, her daughter (Allyson May), and her granddaughter (Katy). Loving mother of Glyn, Raymond, and Elizabeth and mother-in-law of April and Stephen. Will be dearly missed by her grandchildren (Dylan, Eric, Valerie, and Brad) and her great-grandchildren. Loving sister of Robert (Velda), Agnes (Gordon), and her twin, William (Helen) and is joining all of her siblings and their cherished spouses. Being together with all of her siblings is no doubt bringing her great joy. She missed them all terribly. Will be fondly remembered by her many nieces and nephews. She so enjoyed all they brought to her life over the years. Her family, including the Thompsons and the Pillers, meant everything to her. Not only was Loretta loved by family, she had a wide circle of friends. Unbelievably, one friendship lasted over 91 years starting with their mothers introducing them as infants. Friendships developed wherever she was. When she and Earl retired, they moved to Vineland along with two other neighbouring families. Friendships that strong that they all moved together.Loretta had many good memories of her years in Financial Services at Humber College. She could be found at the kitchen table at 4 am working away on the accounting diploma that she completed while working full-time. She was very fond of Diamond Lake, the place where she, Earl, and family escaped to almost every spring, summer and fall weekend. A morning coffee on the dock was one of her absolute favourites. Volunteering (the Canadian Cancer Society and the Canadian Red Cross) was important to Loretta but not as important as her spiritual life, whether she was attending a United Church service or in her later years, joining in on a hymn sing or prayer. Special thanks to the staff at Sunrise Senior Living for making her last couple of months calm and comfortable. The family appreciates the kindness of their staff. And thanks to the staff at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Loretta was comforted by their care.Visitation will be held at Glen Oaks Funeral Home, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville (Ninth Line and Dundas St E, just west of the 403) on Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 1:30 to 2:30 pm. Following the visitation, there will be a service in the Chapel at Glen Oaks at 2:30 pm.In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity close to your own heart would be welcomed.
