Obituary of Theodor Ratz
Theodor (Ted) Ratz, loving husband of Debra (Hammond) who he was married to for 47 years, cherished father of Tina (Chris Benner), Liz (Neal Baker). Beloved Opa of Maxwell and Madisyn Benner, Jalayne, Nolen, Rylan Baker. Adored brother to the late Erika and Hugo Redman, Carl and Helen Ratz, Willie and Marion Ratz, Pauline and Nick Eisfeld. Loved son in law to Edith Anne Collins, brother in law to Karren and the late Alfred Hamm, Diane and Gary Thompson.Ted was born on December 24th, 1931 in Deutsch-Sitzk, Poland. He was one of 16 children born to Micheal and Emma (nee Wiese) Ratz. All but 6 children survived childhood. The family moved to Wissinggen, Germany in 1946 to start a new life. He apprenticed as a woodworker and worked many jobs in Germany. Along with his parents and siblings, the family immigrated to Canada on September 21, 1952 and settled in Toronto on Heman Street (Mimico). Ted went into the window cleaning business and serviced many store fronts along Lakeshore in those early days. In 1971 he started T&W Woodworking with his late brother Willie to which became quite a successful business. In 1972 he married Debra (Hammond) Ratz who was his next door neighbor for many years. They settled in Mississauga and had 2 daughters Christina and Elizabeth. Years later he worked as property management at Queensway Cathedral and in his final years of working did odd jobs for anyone who needed help. He was a hardworking man, but his passion was family and God and now he is with them in Heaven. The rest us will remember him and one day see him again.Until we meet again, Rest in Peace!Friends and family will visit at the Glen Oaks Funeral Home, 3164 Ninth Line (Dundas/403) Oakville on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 6-9 p.m. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 from 10-11 a.m. followed by a Service in the Chapel at 11 o'clock.
