Obituary of Leonard Wirkus

LEONARD E. WIRKUSA private memorial service will be held for Leonard E. Wirkus of Keizer, who died March 6, while enjoying his favorite exercise of swimming at the Kroc Center pool in Salem, Oregon. He was 64.Leonard was born March 2, 1948 in Chicago, Illinois, to Adrith Wirkus(nee Musk) and Frank Wirkus.Wirkus graduated from Carl Schurz High School, Chicago. He furthered his education by obtaining an Associate's Degree from McHenry County College and a Bachelor of Square Dancing from the American Square Dance Society.His computer programming career took him from coast to coast. He worked for Long's Drugs, Hollywood Video and Rite Aid Pharmacy. He moved to Eugene 26 years ago from Chicago, Illinois and retired to Keizer in May, 2009.Leonard enjoyed going to the movies, swimming, square dancing, socializing at Starbucks and girl watching.Survivors include his brothers Arthur [Joan] Wirkus of Chicago, Frank [Carol] Wirkus of Sedona, Arizona, sister Janet [William] Picha (nee Wirkus) of Keizer, Oregon, nephews, Michael and Christopher Maksymiak and nieces Caitlyn and Jenna Maksymiak.A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army.
