Obituary of Haruko Fujimoto
31 March 1929 – 23 November 2019In loving memory of Haruko Fujimoto, wife, mother and grandmother, who passed away peacefully at the Extendicare Mississauga Long-term Care facility on 23 November 2019. Wife to Minoru, mother to Noboru (Sylvia), Osamu (Linda), Keiko and Jun (Mari), grandmother (“Baba”) to Justin, Nathan, Maia, Derek, Scott, Jordan and William. Haruko endured all the challenges of a new, young immigrant mother having arrived in North America in 1959 along with her husband and young son. For Haruko, family and especially her children (and later grandchildren), were most important and, through her sacrifices, ensured a good life for all. She was an excellent seamstress and knitter, often making clothes (including kimonos) for her children. Later in life, she became active in volunteer activities, especially in assisting Japanese seniors navigate the internet. Her lifetime interest in art led to developing a talent for ‘Sumi-e’, a Japanese art form and, in 2014, she won the Ruth Yamada Award, 1st place, in a competition run by the Sumi-e Artists of Canada.Haruko’s passing has left a giant hole in all of our hearts.
