Sullivan, Desmond Thomas 1942-2019We are heartbroken that our world traveler has taken his final journey. Des passed away peacefully at the Ottawa Civic Hospital November 26, 2019, at the age of 77. He, along with his contagious smile and “punny” jokes will be greatly missed by all. Desmond is predeceased by his loving parents, Victor Sullivan and Teresa Burke, his brothers Lawrence (infant) and Paul, and his sisters, Clare (Sister Victorine) C.S.J. and Helen. Beloved brother of George (the late Sharon Reid), Rita, and Margaret (Andre Pilon). Dear uncle to his nieces and nephews who always knew him as the trendy city uncle who drove the cool car and wore the latest fashions.Des was intrigued by family lineage and history. As keeper of family history, his description of his own family would read:Victor Sullivan married Teresa Burke and they had 8 children. Lawrence who passed away in infancy, next was Clare followed by George, Rita, Helen, Paul, Desmond and Margaret. Clare joined the sisterhood. George married Sharon Reid and they had 4 children; Melodie, Timothy, Kimberley and Gerald. Melodie married Scott Armstrong. Timothy married Eveline Lemay and they had 4 children; Russell, Nolan, Myra and Cassie. Kimberley married Gregory Cornthwaite and they had one child, Emily. Margaret married Andre Pilon and they also had 4 children; Donna, Jacques, Stephanie and Patrick. Donna married Mark Biggs and they had 3 children; Erik, Jamie and Camryn. Jacques married Tracy Fitzpatrick and they had 3 children Jake, Madison and Jordan. Stephanie married Stephen Ryan and they had 2 children; Aidan and Sean; Aidan married Robert Belanger. Patrick married Sarah Alderwick and they had two children; Riley and Quinn.Des was a lifelong teacher who happily shared his vast knowledge of multiple subjects. Des took care to keep in contact with his extended family, getting together with cousins at family gatherings and during his annual cottage stay on Allumette Island. He was proud of his Irish heritage and enjoyed fiddling competitions; even having fiddlers over to a bonfire on the beach to entertain friends and fellow cottagers.“The two hardest things to say in life are hello for the first time and goodbye for the last.”Moira RogersAs per Desmond’s wishes, a private family ceremony will be held in his honour. An interment will take place at Capital Funeral Home and Cemetery. Any donations can be made to the ALS Society or charity of your choice.
