Obituary of Donald Truax

Donald TruaxDonald Truax of Eugene died March 24 of complications from renal failure. He was 84. No service is planned.He was born Aug. 29, 1927, in Minneapolis, Minn., to William and Hermina Sobolik Truax. He married Barbara Eckton on Sept. 16, 1950, in Seattle.He received his bachelor’s and master’s degree from the University of Washington and his Ph.D. from Stanford University. He served in the Navy from 1945 to 1947. He taught mathematical statistics at the University of Kansas. In 1959, he began teaching at the University of Oregon. He retired in 1992.Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Catherine Truax, Patricia Truax and Gayle Truax, all of Eugene; 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A daughter, Mary Johnson, died Nov. 26, 2011, and a grandson, Timothy Girts, died July 1, 1988.Private inurnment will be at the Masonic Cemetery. Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary.
