Martin AckerA memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at Temple Beth Israel in Eugene for Martin Herbert “Marty” Acker of Eugene, who died April 30 of congestive heart failure. He was 90.He was born Dec. 15, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Isaac and Rose Katz Acker. He and his wife, Ann, were married Feb. 14, 1976, in Portland.He received his bachelor’s degree from Brooklyn College and his Ph.D. from New York University. He served as a 1st lieutenant in the Army from 1944 to 1946 in the European Theater during World War II and as a prisoner of war interrogation officer.He was a college professor and psychologist.Survivors include his wife; three sons, Michael of Boyes Hot Springs, Calif., David of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Steven of Port Angeles, Wash.; a stepson, Timothy Mitchell of Fulton, Md.; two stepdaughters, Jennifer Martinez of Frederick, Md., and Celeste Mitchell of Marina Del Rey, Calif.; and four grandchildren.Arrangements by England’s Eugene Memorial Chapel in Eugene.
