Obituary of Georgena Kunkel

The funeral for the family will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 4, at West Lawn Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene for Georgena Kunkel of Eugene, who died May 1 of age-related causes. She was 95. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. today, May 3, at the funeral home. A celebration of life is planned at a later date.She was born Aug. 28, 1916, in Ontario Township, N.D., to George and Amy Nixon Stewart. She married Vincent “Jerry” Kunkel on Aug. 27, 1936, in Devil’s Lake, N.D. He died April 29, 1992.She graduated from Southam High School in North Dakota. She worked in several restaurants in Eugene, at Fruit Growers Association and at Chet’s Frozen Foods. She retired in 1978 after working 20 years for First National Bank, west Eugene branch.Survivors include a son, Garry of Eugene; three sisters, Isabel Thomson of Devil’s Lake, N.D., and Mabel Kunkel and Leila Nelson, both of Eugene; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
