Obituary of Betty Carlson

Betty CarlsonA memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at Rose City Park United Methodist Church in Portland for Betty Marion Carlson of Eugene, who died June 3 of age-related causes. She was 89.She was born June 21, 1922, in Becker County, Minn., to Benjamin and Marion Rudolph Peoples. She married John E. Carlson on June 3, 1950, in St. Paul, Minn. He died May 31, 2009.She graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Hamlin University, St. Paul, Minn., in 1945. She worked as a supervisor of the hemotology lab at the medical school that is now called Oregon Health & Science University. She worked as a medical technologist from 1945 to the early 1980s.Survivors include two daughters, Jean Calahan of Toledo, Ore., and Julie Carlson of Eugene; a sister, Emma Capps of Portland; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A daughter, Judith Poppenhagen, died May 2, 2012.Private burial will be at Skyline Memorial Park in Portland. Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
