Obituary of Aaron Daywitt

February 27, 1963 September 20, 2012 James Aaron Daywitt passed away on September 20, 2012, at age 49. A long-time resident of Eugene, Aaron died tragically after he was struck by a train while bicycling. Aaron was born February 27, 1963, in Johnson City, Tennessee to Robert J. and Nancy R. Daywitt. He was preceded in death by his father, and is survived by his beloved wife, Sarah Daywitt, and beautiful twin daughters, Harper and Ivy. Also surviving are his mother, Nancy, and three siblings: Evan Daywitt and family, Elizabeth Taylor and family, and Jason Daywitt and family. Aaron grew up in Grants Pass, Oregon, graduating from North Valley High School in 1981. He was student body president and an accomplished athlete. Spending hours upon end as a boy playing sports, he was honored as an all-state quarterback and baseball pitcher at North Valley High School. Aaron attended Linfield College and Guilford College before graduating from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics. He was a diehard Ducks supporter, once gracing the front sports page of the Register-Guard as fans celebrated the basketball team's last second victory over Arizona State. He spent almost 20 years as a successful and well-regarded mortgage broker and business owner in Eugene. Aaron was a devoted husband and father, spending much of his free time building a garden, chicken coop and play structure for his children. He was an active member of the local cycling community, and raced competitively for a number of years before retiring to the ranks of daily bicycle commuters. Aaron was also an avid convert to fly-fishing, frequenting the Alsea, Deschutes, Rogue and McKenzie rivers in search of steelhead and other tranquil pursuits. He enjoyed camping and fishing trips, including among his destinations Colorado, Montana, Wyoming and Belize. Each year he looked forward to an annual fishing trip to the Bahamas with his wife and friends. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2012, at 1:00 p.m., at the Shedd Institute, 868 High Street, Eugene, Oregon. Refreshments and fellowship will follow the service. Aaron's employer, Alpine Mortgage, has established a support fund for Aaron's wife and children. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, contributions may be made to "Alpine Mortgage Community Care," referencing "Aaron Daywitt Fund" in the check memo.
