Obituary of Hazel Koon

JUNCTION CITY — The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at United Methodist Church in Junction City for Hazel Koon of Junction City, who died Oct. 15 of age-related causes. She was 91.She was born Nov. 17, 1920, in Pendleton to Barney and Carrie Ward Oldfield. She married Bennie Koon in 1959 in Eugene. He died in October 1999.She graduated from Blue River High School. She obtained her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Oregon. She began her teaching career at Colorado State in Fort Collins, Colo. She then taught at Vale during the war years, moved to Junction City in 1952 and began teaching at Junction City High School until her retirement in 1981.Survivors include two sons, James Swindle of Powell Butte and John Swindle of Seattle; a daughter, Judith Harthun of Portland; a stepson, Bennie Koon of Aurora, Colo.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A stepson, Daniel Earl Koon, died in 1985.Burial will follow the funeral in Rest Lawn Memorial Park in Junction City. Arrangements by Murphy-Musgrove Funeral Home in Junction City.
