Obituary of Ross Guiley

A memorial service will be held at Musgrove Memorial Chapel, 11th & Olive, Eugene on Sat., Oct. 20th at 1 p.m. for Ross Guiley, Jr. who passed away on October 12th of heart failure. He was 87. Ross was born on March 4, 1925 in Eugene, OR to Alice Brunk Guiley and Ross Guiley, Sr. He graduated from Eugene High School, class of 1943 and entered the Army Air Corps, subsequently flying B-17 aircraft in Europe. Returning to Eugene after the war ended, he attended the University of Oregon and married Evelyn Anne Hill on April 14, 1946. He was employed at the Eugene Planing Mill and Union Oil Co. before being recalled into the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict. He retired in 1970 as a Lt. Colonel, after service on the mainland, Korea, Japan, & Vietnam. Returning to Eugene, he spent 15 years with Paramount Supply Co. in the sales dept., a great job for him, as he loved meeting & talking with people. After retiring from Paramount in 1987, he enjoyed playing golf with his friend Warren Bussell. He played racquetball and enjoyed riding long distance on his bicycle. Twelve years ago, he and his friend, Joe Wasson, started the Mocha Club at Costco, where the group, which grew to 12, met mornings and enjoyed each others company, mochas and endless conversation. Ross & his wife, Anne, also enjoyed traveling and took many trips to Hawaii, where they owned a timeshare in Kauai. They also enjoyed many cruises to Alaska & the Caribbean, as well as trips to the Oregon Coast. Ross was a member of Gideons International for many years and spoke in Eugene area churches on their behalf. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Eugene. He was also a past member of First Christian Church, where he was very active as an Elder, Board Chairman and served on many committees. Ross was known for his quick wit, sense of humor and kindness to others. He was especially appreciative of his friends who came to get him frequently for lunch. Also for the visits at home when he was unable to go out. He was a wonderful husband, father & grandfather. He will be truly missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Hawthorne of Eugene, two sons Ron Guiley of Bend, and Randy Guiley of Beaverton; eight grand children and two great grand children.
