James SmithSPRINGFIELD — The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Lane Memorial Gardens & Funeral Home in Eugene for James Sheppard “Jim” Smith of Springfield, who died Oct. 15 of cardiac arrest. He was 93. Visitation will be at noon Saturday, after the service.He was born Aug. 1, 1919, in Oregon City to George and Dessa Fish Smith. He married Maedell Lloyd on Dec. 15, 1945, in San Diego.He graduated from Mohawk High School. He served in the Navy in the South Pacific, Solomon Islands, during World War II. He worked as a millworker and car salesman.Survivors include his wife; a son, Greg of Pleasant Hill; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A son, Jerry Smith, and a daughter, Pamela Smith Pyle, died previously.Burial will follow the service at Lane Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
