Vestal PowellCOTTAGE GROVE — A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Oct. 26 at Creswell Pioneer Cemetery for Vestal “Vern” Powell of Cottage Grove, who died Oct. 15 of heart failure. He was 82.Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 26 at Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene. A memorial gathering is planned for later.He was born Jan. 15, 1930, in Steel, N.D., to Finess and Edith Safford Powell.He held a bachelor’s degree from Southern Oregon College in Ashland. He served in the U.S. Army Engineers, stationed in Greenland and Panama. He worked for Southern Pacific Railroad, starting as a fireman and retiring after 36 years as an engineer.Survivors include a sister, Francile Grousbeck of Creswell.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
