Obituary of Leonard Chase
Leonard ChaseA memorial service will be held at noon Friday, Dec. 21, at Grace Lutheran Church in Eugene for Leonard J. Chase of Eugene, who died Dec. 10 of age-related causes. He was 93.He was born March 19, 1919, in Chicago to Walter and Sophie Gawlowski Czachowski. He married Evelyn V. Westfall on July 7, 1945, in Chicago. She died Jan. 3, 2011.He held a bachelor’s degree in education from the University of Oregon. He served 27 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in February 1961 as lieutenant colonel. He spent 38 months in the Pacific and was wounded on the island of Leyte in the Philippines. He worked for more than 12 years in the Oregon system of higher education. He also contracted independently with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He finally retiredin 1990 as a self-employed consultant offering emergency and disaster management education and training.Survivors include two sons, Arnold of Wilsonville and Raymond of Veneta; a brother, Henry of Michigan; and three grandchildren.Burial will be at noon, Monday, Dec. 17, in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
