Obituary of Margaret Wade
Margaret Ruth Elspas Wade passed away on 2/7/13 after a brief fight with pneumonia. She was 98. Margaret was an independent, positive soul with a never ending sense of humor. Margaret was a life long Eugenian. She was born to Marshall "Red" Elspas and Nettie Fern Nestle Elspas on January 11, 1915. She was the second of 3 children and the last to leave this world. She graduated from Eugene High School and went on to become a cosmetician. She owned and operated 3 hair salons; The OK Salon, The Golden Key in the Atrium Building, and The Beauty Mark in the Old Mill in Springfield. After retiring, she fulfilled a life long dream of traveling to Europe, particularly Germany and Israel. She was at the Berlin Wall when it was torn down. In retirement, she also became a Senior Companion with Senior and Disabled Services. When her vision failed and she was not able to continue as a Senior Companion, she helped initiate a telephone program, calling and checking on disabled seniors and notifying families when needed. Her work with Senior and Disabled Services lasted 20 years. Margaret was predeceased by her son Michael Glen Wade and is survived by her daughter Mary M. Anderson of Springfield. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren; Mathew Michael Wade, Leah Fern Wren, Christina Ann Greer, Amy Lynn McDonald, and Andrew Delmar Greer; and by 4 great grandchildren.
