Obituary of Viola Gilmore

On February 7, 2013 our beautiful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother and friend passed away peacefully in her sleep. Viola Hedwig Madie Schenk Gilmore was born on March 13, 1913 in Sanborn, Minnesota to Anton and Soffie Schenk. She was the oldest of seven children and grew up on the family farm in Brown County, Minnesota. Vi completed the eighth grade and worked hard cooking meals, milking cows, gathering eggs and helping raise her siblings.On March 13, 1933, Vi married William Gilmore in Stately, Minnesota and began her adventures as a wife and mother. Bill and Vi packed up their belongings and traveled West to visit the World's Fair in San Diego, Californina. They drove up the coast and stopped along the way to find a good place to settle. The couple had two daughters, Betty and Jean. They lived in Seattle, Washington, Portland, Oregon, Boise, Idaho and McMinnville, Oregon before moving to Eugene, Oregon in 1959. Vi worked as a homemaker, as a bookkeeper at a dry cleaner and for 22 years as an Avon Representative, where she earned the highest score for numerous sales campaigns. She loved to knit, crochet, play cards, dominoes and travel.Vi is survied by daughter, Betty Brown, of Beaverton, Oregon. Also survived by four granddaughters; Keri Hegwood of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Sherrie Warthen (Alan) of Springfield, Oregon, Terrie McFadden (John) of Cheshire, Oregon and Julie Gellings (Ray) of Beaverton, Oregon. Vi had eight great grandchildren; Nicholas, Kortnay, Lydia, Paula, Allison, Shelley, Noah and Kelsey. She had three great-great grand children; Eli, Emily and Kamron.She is preceded in death by her husband, William Glen Gilmore (1997), the love of her life, and her youngest daughter, Jean Marie Allison Prince (2010).Musgrove/Englands Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.Services will be held on February 23, at 11:00 at Musgrove Family Center, 1152 Olive Street, Eugene, Oregon. Private inurnment to follow at Sunset Hills Memorial Gardens.
