Obituary of Mary Ann Martin
Mary Ann Martin, 77, passed away March 18th in Eugene, Oregon. She was a long time resident of Eugene after living in California the first part of her life. She was born in Glendale, California on December 10, 1935, to Anna Laura (Mitchell) Martin and Robert Earl Martin. She leaves two sons, Kenneth Earl Johnson of Moscow, Idaho and William Emerson Shepherd of Unity Village, Missouri; sister, Kay Martin of Hemet, California and long time companion and friend, Linda Ochs of Eugene. She was preceeded in death by her brother, Marty Martin.In high school Mary Ann was a member of the California Scholarship Federation, the National Forensic League, directed the Senior Play and was German Club President. Mary Ann was involved in the art community and women's community in Eugene. She showed her small pocket sculptures at Ruby Chasm, entered some large sculptures in the Mayor's Art Show, and had a student display of her ceramics in the U of O Fine Arts Studio. She enjoyed attending events at Mother Kali's and she wrote several letters to the editor to the Register Guard. In Grand Forks, North Dakota she taught art to mentally disabled young people in a sheltered workshop. She loved to create art and give it away. She was known for her angel paper sculptures. She loved the monthly art walks in Eugene. Mary Ann was known for her expansive vocabulary, quick wit, and wonderful smile. Although confined to a wheelchair for several years, she still loved getting out and about in her beloved Eugene. There will be no service.
