Obituary of Martin Jongsma
Martin Carl Jongsma left to be with his Heavenly Father on March 19, 2013. He was born on May 25, 1934 in Artesia, California, the youngest son of Andrew and Jessie (Sterk) Jongsma and brother of Harold and Gertie (Spyksma) Jongsma. He served his country through the National Guard. On May 27, 1955 he married Evelyn Lautenbach and began their married life in the dairy business. Two daughters were born in California before they moved to Everson, Washington in 1959 where two sons followed. His spirit of adventure brought them to Sunnyside, Washington in 1973 to continue dairying. Martin continued his business ventures in telecommunications and plastic recycling when they moved to Springfield, Oregon in 1990. Martin’s greatest passion, after his family, was fishing and hunting and passing that love on to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The "Ducks", storytelling and hats were also high on that list. Martin is survived by Evelyn, his wife of 58 years; children- Sharon (Rick) Morris and Johnny (Teresa Dorosh) Jongsma of Springfield and Eugene, Oregon; Karen (Albert) Don and Jerry (Kristi Brock) Jongsma of Prosser and Sunnyside, Washington; 18 grandchildren , 10 great-grandchildren and many other relatives. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister. All services are to be at Springfield Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home. Visitation hours are scheduled for Tuesday, March 26th from 4:00-7:00. The memorial service will be on Wednesday, March 27th at 1:00 with the graveside at 2:00.
