Obituary of Betty Mae Hope

Betty Mae Hope, known to friends and family as Bim, of Eugene, Oregon, passed April 9, 2013, at the age of 93. She was born March 8, 1920, in Portland, Oregon, to Joseph and Mable Lind. She was married to Ralph A. Hope Jr. on December 3, 1944.Bim attended Eugene area schools, including Edison Elementary and University High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism from the University of Oregon in 1942.The Hope family owned Oakway Golf Course for many years. Bim worked and played in Ladies Golf. She was the Women’s Club champion several times. Bim enjoyed spending winters with her husband, Ralph, in Sun City, Arizona, where they lived on a golf course. Bim’s interests included traveling the world, gardening, and making decorations. She was involved with Camp Fire Girls.Bim is survived by her grandson, Benjamin J. Kordon, and his wife, Melissa M. Allen, as well as her great-grandchildren Aerin Gardner, Grace Kordon, and Henry Kordon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph, in 1997 and her daughter, Laurie Hope-Kordon-Harrison, in 1999.Per her request, no memorial service is planned. A family memorial gathering will take place later at Gillespie Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children or Daughters of the Nile, Nydia Temple.Arrangements by Musgrove Family Mortuary in Eugene.
