Obituary of Eleanor Mason

Eleanor Gibson Mason of Springfield, Oregon died May 1, 2013 of age related causes. She was born July 15, 1921 in Jamaica Plains, Massachusetts to John D. Gibson Jr. and Otey A, Gibson. She married Ralph J. Mason Jr. on January 24, 1947 in Needham, Massachusetts. She graduated from Pelham Memorial High School in Pelham, New York. She attended Missouri School of Mines in Rolla, Missouri, University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi, Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, Harding College in Searcy, Arkansas, and New England College in Henniker, New Hampshire before graduating from Keene State College in Keene, New Hampshire in Elementary Education in 1949. She served in the U. S. Coast Guard during WWII. She received her Master’s in Elementary Education at the University of Oregon in 1962. She taught elementary school at Brattain and Page in Springfield, Oregon from 1950 until 1983, when she retired. She was a member of the Springfield Museum, McKenzie-Willamette Hospital Women’s Auxiliary, Kiwanis Women, DAR, and was an active member of the Girl Scouts for over 80 years. She is survived by two daughters, Jacqueline M. Reed of San Jose, California and Jeanne K. Schneider of Henderson, Nevada, three grandchildren, Hanna Cox of Henderson, Nevada, John Klinzmann of Springfield, Oregon and Peter Liner of Springfield, Oregon, and two great-grandchildren, Mallory and R.C. Cox III of Henderson, Nevada, as well as numerous nieces and nephews in Oregon, Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts. At her request, no services are planned. Special gifts may be made in her name to the Sacred Heart Hospice.
