Obituary of Joanne Ortwein

Joanne Ortwein passed May 14th with her family by her side after a long battle with cancer. Joanne was 73. She was born in Salem, OR May 8th, 1940 to Spencer and Mable Groff Barnes. She attended grade school in Salem before moving to Oakridge where she attended junior high and high school and her early adult years before moving to Springfield. Joanne worked at Sacred Heart Hospital in the physical therapy department, Albertsons and Bi-Mart. She was also co-owner of Barnes Automotive. Her hobbies included cooking, canning, crocheting, sewing, collecting cookbooks and antiques. She also enjoyed camping and gardening. Joanne married David Ortwein in 1990. She is survived by her husband, daughters Jodi Heisinger of Portland, OR, Sherry Wilkins of Grass Valley, CA, Bonnie Trader of Eugene, a son Michael Ortwein of Springfield, brother Dale Barnes of Salem, OR, 14 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. No service will be held. A celebration of life is in the planning for this summer. Arrangements by Springfield Memorial Funeral Home.
