Obituary of Frances Sherman

Fran Sherman passed away peacefully and with grace on June 4 at age 95. Born Frances Levy, she was the adoring wife of the late Leo Sherman, beloved mother of Nancy Sherman and Betty (and Jim) Hemmingsen, devoted grandmother to Nina, Jeremy (and Rachael), and Sara (and Destin), and thrilled great-grandmother to Gabrielle and Anabelle.Fran helped establish the first labor union at Macy’s and always fought for progressive causes. An accomplished dancer in her teens, she became a lifelong supporter of theater, music, and dance, and enjoyed poetry, word puzzles and knitting. Her generous heart and insightful spirit nurtured an amazing 69 year marriage, strong dedication to family, and deep, lasting friendships. A proud New Yorker by birth and throughout her life, she also very happily spent the last 12 years in her adopted hometown of Eugene, where her circle continued to grow. Wise, witty and wonderful Fran will be missed by many.Donations to honor Fran may be made to Hospice of Sacred Heart.
