Obituary of Lillian Chambers

Lillian June Peterson Chambers, 92 of Springfield, Oregon passed away on June 22, 2013 after living her life to the fullest. She had been a resident of Springfield for 32 years. Lil was born June 10, 1921 in Nelson, B.C., Canada to Victor and Susan (Dally) Peterson. When she was one year old, she moved to Harrison, Idaho to live and where she attended schools. Lil was a star basketball player in Harrison high school. She married Bernard Chambers on June 10, 1938 in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho. They were married for 66 years. Bernie preceded her in death in 2004. Lil worked as a welder in the shipyards during World War II. After the war she and her family moved to a 160 acre farm near Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and then later to a farm in Hayden Lake, Idaho. Lil worked as a chef at the Hayden Lake Country Club until she retired in 1981, at which time Lil and Bernard moved to Springfield. Lil was a member of St John’s Episcopal Church in Springfield and St Luke’s Episcopal Church in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho and various community organizations. Lil and Bernie were honorary life members of the Hayden Lake Country Club. She and Bernie spent many winters vacationing in Arizona. Lil liked to pass the time crocheting and embroidering gifts for friends. She was an avid crossword puzzle worker and looked forward to doing the puzzle every morning. She always had freshly baked cookies on hand for friends and family who stopped by to visit. Lillian is survived by daughter Janice Coppock of Mesa, Arizona, son Victor Chambers of Junction City, Oregon and daughter BettySue (Duane) Bischoff of Leaburg, Oregon. She is also survived by former daughter in law Idella Stinson, 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, sister in law Dorthy Peterson and many nieces and nephews, and a multitude of friends. She was preceded in death by 5 brothers, 2 sisters, and her parents. A Memorial Service will be held at St John’s Episcopal Church in Springfield on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 2:30 pm.
