Obituary of James Rear
James Robert "Jim" Rear Sr. died June 25, 2013, from natural causes at the age of 91.Jim was born in Alliance, Alberta, Canada, to Clinton Garfield and Elizabeth Jamieson Rear on December 23, 1921. His family moved to Eugene in 1930. He graduated from Santa Clara High School and attended the University of Oregon.Jim was a farmer in the Eugene- Santa Clara area who raised peaches, blue lake pole beans, carrots, and cane berries among other crops. He married Pauline Havercroft on September 5, 1942, during peach harvest. Their honeymoon would occur later.With his brothers, Garfield and Hugh, he established and managed Rear's Mfg. Co. They specialized in pole bean production equipment, agricultural sprayers, and flail mowers. These products have been distributed throughout North America.He served his community through active participation on Eugene 4J school board and Sacred Heart Foundation budget committees, Boy Scouts, and with the Down Town and Airport Rotary Clubs . He was, with his wife, Pauline, a member of the Peace Presbyterian Church.He is survived by his wife, Pauline, his daughter Elizabeth (Brad) Copeland, sons Michael (Marjorie) and James (Marilyn), eight grand children, and ten great grand children, and his sister Mary Rear Green.He was predeceased by his daughter Mary Margaret and her husband Jerry Blakely, his brothers Garfield, Hugh, and Alfred.He is also survived by the many valued employees of Rear's Mfg. who supported the growth and success of his entrepreneurial spirit.A celebration of life will be held Saturday July 13th, 2:00 pm at Central Presbyterian Church, 555 East 15th St. Eugene, Oregon.Remembrances may be made in Jim's name to Junction City Education Together Foundation, P O Box 523, Junction City, OR 97448.
