Obituary of Carl Gustafson

On November 28, 1919, Carl Frederick Gustafson was born in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. His father, a Swedish immigrant, so loved America that every day he proudly flew her flag, passing this devotion to his son. After retiring from Flint's General Motors in 1972, he and his family moved to Oregon where he spent his days roaming the beaches, enjoying crosswords, spending time with family, and making daily visits to church with his beloved rosary in hand. He passed away at home on July 18 from heart failure. His wife, Mary, and infant son, David, preceded him in death. He is survived by his children: Carl Jr. (Mary), Janice (Patrick) Hoonhout, Cary residing in Italy, and Annette (John) Huston; grandchildren: Danny (Sarah), Rachel, and Michael Huston, and Emma and John in Italy; and twin great-granddaughters: Emily and Erin Huston. The funeral Mass will be held at 9:30 at St Mary Catholic Church, on July 23, the feast of St. Gertrude of Sweden.
