Obituary of Sharon Alley
Sharon Cook Alley, "Cookie" 72, passed away the 13th of August. Sharon was born in Pender, Nebraska to Kayo, deceased, and Helen Cook. She was raised in Eugene, Oregon by Jack and Helen Racely. Sharon graduated from South Eugene High in 1960 and graduated from the University of Oregon with a Master's Degree in Interior Architecture. Sharon was an intelligent entrepreneur and started her own commercial interior architecture business in 1970 in New York City, that she ran successfully for almost 35 years. Sharon was one of the first women to pioneer the field and her work can be seen in many New York area hospitals and law schools. Sharon's career was balanced by a deep commitment to family and a passion for the arts. Sharon had an abundance of creativity, a sharp wit, she was pragmatic, intellectually curious, and she was deeply caring. She married her soul mate, the late Frederick D. Alley, President & CEO of the Brooklyn Medical Center. They loved nature, and spent much time outdoors at their home in Sharon, Connecticut. She had no children but she is survived by her mother, Helen Racely; her sisters: Judy, JenNee, and Metta; her nieces: Kristine, Tracy and Elise; and her nephews: Ken, Kevin, Dustin, Kyle, Corey and Stuart. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. Donations can be made in Sharon's memory to Signature Hospice of Eugene, Oregon.
