Obituary of David Campbell
C. David Campbell passed away from a rare form of Anaplastic Thyroid Cancer on August 11, 2013. A Celebration of Life for Dave will be held on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ford Alumni Center at U of O, 1720 E 13th Ave., Eugene, Oregon 97403. Parking is available in the underground parking garage directly below the Ford Alumni Center.Dave was born February 4, 1933, to Clyde and Arta (Bond) Campbell in Rector, Missouri. He was the sixth of seven children: Maburn, Willia, Charles, Evelyn, Violet, Dave and Stanley.Dave attended 16 schools in 12 years when the family left Missouri for Colorado, where they lived in Clifton, Loveland, and Palisades. They moved to Crescent, OR., Centralia and Bucoda, WA. They moved back to Oregon and resided in Union Creek, Shady Cove, and Prospect.He graduated from Prospect High School, Class of 1950 and Southern Oregon College, Class of 1954. He received his Masters in Education in 1962 from the University of Oregon.He taught at River Road Elementary in Eugene, OR from 1954 to 1955. Dave then served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Gordon, GA, from 1955-1957. Upon returning to Eugene, he taught at Lincoln, Francis Willard, Meadowlark and Patterson Elementary. He was Principal of Santa Clara, Whitaker, and Bailey Hill elementary schools. He retired from the 4J School District in June 1988.He married Monte Middlebusher on November 9, 1957 in Medford, OR.Growing up, Dave participated in many sports, including baseball, football, boxing, and skiing. He loved the great outdoors, and spent much of his life hunting and fishing, often times in remote wilderness areas untouched by human civilization. He was also an award-winning woodcarver, and enjoyed photography and the study of Native American history and geography, especially in central and eastern Oregon. Dave was instrumental in developing innovative instructional programs that impacted children in school district 4J, where he spent his entire working career.Dave is survived by his wife Monte and their three sons and daughters-in-law; Scott (Mary) Campbell of Leaburg, Brian (Kris) Campbell of Creswell and Glen (Cindy) Campbell of Eugene, and eight grandchildren: Ashley Campbell, Andrew Campbell, Melissa Campbell, Alison Campbell, Meagan Campbell, Hannah Keen, John Campbell and Dylan Campbell.Above all, Dave loved and provided for his wife, sons, daughters-in-law, 8 grandchildren, and his extended family of siblings, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was particularly proud of his grandchildren and being part of their upbringing and seeing the people they have become.Contributions can be sent to the Gillilan/Torrey Memorial Fund in care of Sheldon High School, which helps support student participation in athletics.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
