Obituary of Elizabeth McLeod

O. Elizabeth “Betty” McLeod passed away peacefully on August 10, 2013, at the age of 94. Betty was born on December 2, 1918 in New Cambria, Missouri, the oldest of five children. Her husband of 66 years, William McLeod, passed away in 2009.Betty is survived by her four children, Michael (Catherine), Nancy Schwoerer (James), Steve McLeod and Trish McLeod. She is also survived by her three grandchildren, Michael Schwoerer, Jennifer Schwoerer and Lauren Towery.Shortly after high school Betty moved out west to Seattle, Washington where she worked several jobs while going to business school to become a bookkeeper. In 1942 Betty moved to Anchorage, Alaska. She soon met William “Bill” McLeod, who was with the territorial police. They were married in Anchorage, February 20, 1943. In 1946 they moved to Vanport, Oregon where Bill attended college. After surviving the Vanport flood of 1948, Betty and Bill moved to Eugene where they lived for the next 65 years. Betty worked as a bookkeeper for several businesses throughout the years and retired from her last position at the Eugene Speech and Hearing Center.Betty was an accomplished seamstress and could sew anything. She spent many retirement years volunteering at the Eugene Kaufman Senior Center where she enjoyed the company of her many friends. Betty and Bill enjoyed their retirement years traveling throughout the western United States.Betty was many things to many people, but none more than a mother and kind friend. We miss her very much.A celebration of life will be held for Betty on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Musgrove Family Center, 1152 Olive Street, Eugene, 97401 at 2 pm.Arrangements entrusted to England’s Eugene Memorial Chapel.
