Obituary of Robert Kayl

Robert ("Bob") Joseph Kayl passed away in the early hours of September 7, 2013, after courageous battle with cancer. Bob was 83 years of age.Bob was born on March 18, 1930, in South Dakota to Mary Rosalie ("Rose") Mann and Andrew ("Andy") Kayl. During the Great Depression, Andy moved his family to Portland, Oregon. Bob met Dorothy Ann Chandler while she was in nursing school and, after she graduated, they were married on June 6, 1953, in Multnomah County.In the mid 50's they settled in Eugene. Bob and his business partner, jim Cameron, started C&K Petroleum Equipment in July of 1966. C&K still serves petroleum and automotive industries in Oregon. C&K's employees were as important to him as its customers, inspiring their great loyalty and long tenures.Bob, and avid sportsman, was happiest in Northwest waterways and woods, fishing for salmon or hunting game birds. He led a full and interesting life, and was always ready with a story to regale his many friends and family.Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife on October 28, 2010, after 57 years of marriage. He is survived by their five children: Steve Kayl, Karen Forster, Jeff Kayl, Scott Kaylo and Kevin Kayl; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and by his sister, Marcell Pearson.In accordance with Bob's wishes, a small private service for immediate family will be held at his home.
