Obituary of Sonia Dobson
After courageously coping with Alzheimer’s for eight years, Sonia S. Dobson was finally freed from the ravages of this dreadful disease. She died peacefully at her home In Eugene, Oregon on Sunday Evening, September 8th. Sonia was born in Syracuse but spent her early days in Ithaca, New York and then graduated in three years from Vassar College. Her closest college friends called her “Sunny” - a nick name that stuck for it so perfectly personified her radiant personality. An organic gardener long before the practice became popular; Sonia was also a tireless crusader for the environment and a caring and giving person for those less fortunate. Organizing a household for nine children (plus always some extras) was routine and did not slow her down from her daily commitments to charity. “Food for Lane County”, “Centro Latino” and the teaching of “English as a Second Language” would only be naming a few. Yet, there was still time in her daily routine to perform the tasks of a master gardener and true gourmet cook! Besides all that, she and her husband, Eben, enjoyed extensive traveling and numerous and adventurous sailboat trips. She loved animals and living on a farm. She loved hiking and camping. She loved Mexico (where they spent a good part of their time). She loved Country and Western music – especially Willie Nelson. She loved her children and their fabulous mates. She will be irreplaceably missed! To Sonia and all other Alzheimer victims – For years you have coped with this insidious disease that slowly kills without mercy. If there is gratitude to come from this, let it all be directed to the thousands of caregivers who unselfishly strive for your comfort! In Sonia’s case - special thanks and gratitude to Maureen, Jessie and Doris. A celebration of Sonia’s life will be at the Eugene Country Club on Saturday, September 21st at 1:30 pm. Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary. Please access the obituary and you are invited to sign the guestbook at musgroves.comAny remembrances could be directed to Food for Lane County.
