Obituary of Betty Durfee
On the evening of 9/23/2013 Betty Durfee at the age of 81 years passed away peacefully at Peacehealth Hospital while being attended by her family. Her final hours were spent surrounded by family and friends that Betty had touched in some small way throughout her memorable life. She was born July 19, 1932 in Lewiston, Idaho to Herschel and Martha Pittman. Betty recently was predeceased by her loving husband Earl Durfee of 63 years who passed away August 31, 2013. Her son John Durfee also predeceased her in death. Betty graduated from Springfield High School in 1950. She moved to Gold Beach, Oregon in 1958. There she served as an excellent homemaker while working part time as a cook in the school cafeteria. Later she and her family returned to Springfield, Oregon in 1970 to reside. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Ulmer and husband Wayne, Joanne Eldridge and husband Rick; one brother-in-law, Norman Petersen and wife Carol; two grandchildren, Ryan Allbright, Raenelle Culp and husband Vern; and one great-grandchild, Austin Culp. Betty enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Yuma, Arizona. She loved going on cruises with family and friends. She and her husband also shared fond memories of belonging to their camping group. She will be missed by so many and her memories will play over and over in our hearts. At her request, no service will be held. A celebration of life for both her and Earl will be announced at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Springfield Memorial Funeral Home.
