Obituary of Gertrude Newman

Gertrude Luella Kinyon was born May 18, 1932 to Gail and Anna Kinyon in Bozeman, Montana. Siblings included Laverne, Harold, Burton, Dorothy, Nellie, and Charles Kinyon . She graduated from Lowell high school in 1950.On July 7, 1950 she married Roy Beldon Newman. After living in Valejo, California and Lowell, Oregon, they settled in Springfield in 1955. Together they had two children, Gary and Ken Newman. Roy and Gertie took great joy in raising their boys and were especially proud that both attained the level of Eagle Scout. Gertie established Emerald Bookkeeping Service and operated it for 35 years, until the time of her passing.Roy and Gertie were lifelong fans of University of Oregon athletics. They had season basketball tickets for 35 years and football tickets for more than 40. Gertie was an active member of Daisy Ducks and loved to cheer on her beloved teams. Cherished memories included time spent with friends camping and fishing at Odell Lake each summer for more than 20 years.Gertie was blessed in her life to have a very close-knit group of friends and family. She was at her best when entertaining and surrounded by those she loved; whether hosting a large party, a tailgate before a football game, or a small group on a Friday evening in their living room. Friends and family remember her energy and life of the party attitude.Gertie’s late husband, Roy, passed in December of 2011. Gertie passed away peacefully at her home the morning of September 15th. She is survived by her sons Gary Newman and wife, Linda, of Olympia; Ken Newman and wife, Dee, of Colorado Springs; grandchildren Melissa Sopke and husband, Craig; Kyle Newman and wife, Maureen; Leslie Golden and Mark Golden; and great-grandchildren Allison and Connor Sopke, and Quinn Newman.
