Obituary of Garth Luke

SPRINGFIELD- The funeral will be Oct. 4, 2013 for Garth Armond Luke of Springfield, who passed away September 29, 2013 of Alzheimer's. He was 87. Garth was born April 9, 1926 in Manti, Utah to Armond and Wilma Luke. He was a war veteran of WWII and served on the Ticonderoga aircraft carrier. He served a 2 year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints in Oregon. This is where he met his wife, Audrey Coombs. They were married in Mesa, Arizona on May 13, 1950. He got his masters degree in education from the University of Oregon. He taught elementary school for about 30 years in the Springfield school district and surrounding area. He will be remembered by his faithful service in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. With his wife Audrey, they served an 18-month genealogy mission in Salt Lake City, Utah. They also served in the Portland Temple for many years. He was a gifted artist leaving behind many oil paintings that will be cherished by family members for years to come. Survivors include his six daughters, Tena Luke and Joni Luke, both of Utah, Paula Bivens, Tammey Knowles and Karla Prociw, all of Oregon, and Deycie Luke of Idaho; two sons, Brad and Monty Luke, both of Oregon; two brothers and one sister, Philip Luke of California, Craig Luke and MarLynn Soper, both of Utah; 43 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. His wife, Audrey Coombs, died in 2006 and daughter, Debra Jones, died in 2001. Friday’s service will be at 1:00pm at Springfield Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
