Obituary of Ole Haldorson

Ole J. Haldorson passed away on October 18, 2013 at 6:00am. He was born March 2, 1913 in Eugene, Oregon. Ole was a rancher, logger and worked in the mills. He went in service as a young man in July of 1931 until June of 1934 in field artillery in the territory of Hawaii. He had the rank of private and became a bridge builder in Lane County until the war began in 1942. He was inducted in March of 1942 and rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant until he became a Second Lieutenant in November of 1944 as a member of the 532 boat regiment. Ole was a Coxswain until his battlefield commission. His landings included Lay, New Guinea; Finschafen, New Guinea; Hollandia, Leyte, Philippine Islands and Mindoro, Philippines. His personal decorations included Bronze Star, Asiatic Pacific service, Philippine Liberations with 2 bronze stars and World War II victory medal, good conduct and National Defense. After the war he married Ruth Brookes and returned to civilian life as a bridge foreman in Lane County. He retired as the Bridge Superintendent of Lane County. He was active in the Izaak Walton League and a lifetime member of the NRA and VFW. His principle charity was the Eugene Mission and he gave to them every month. Ole is predeceased by his wife Ruth who passed away in 1987. Survivors include his nephew, nieces and many, many close friends. The burial with military honors will be at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene on Wednesday, October 23 at 2:00pm. Arrangements entrusted to Lane Memorial Funeral Home.
