Obituary of Cleo Vik

Cleo Yvonne Vik of Eugene died Thursday, October 24, 2013. She was 88.Cleo was born November 6,1924 in Westby, Montana to Roy and Helga (Johanson) Stageberg. The family later moved to Plentywood, Montana where Cleo graduated from high school. In 1944 the family moved to Eugene where Cleo attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing. After graduation, she worked as an R.N. for a Eugene ear nose and throat specialist.In 1949 Cleo married Trygve Vik. Together they built a company, Vik Construction, a family of five children, and a life of service to their church and community. In 1967, Trygve was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and for the next 40 years until his death in 2006, Cleo was his primary caregiver and loving companion.A member of Central Lutheran Church for 69 years, Cleo sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, served as a Stephen Minister, and was active in women’s ministry. She was also a member of Eugene Junior League, Eugene Assistance League, Assembly Club, and Eugene Country Club.Cleo began a lifelong love of music as a young girl in Montana where she and sisters, Ardelle and Donna, performed as a singing, tap dancing trio. Her love of singing and performing continued throughout her life and for 36 years she sang as part of We Three, a vocal trio that brought music to hospitals, nursing homes, and shut-ins.Survivors include children Greg (Linda) Vik of Eugene, Sonja (Joan Spratlen) Vik, of Eugene, Brian (Pamela) Vik of Portland, Tana (Randy) Taylor of Eugene and Kristin (Roosevelt) White of Eugene; nine grandchildren, Siri (Evan St Cyr) Vik, Annie (Dave Markey) Vik, Brie (Nate) Duff, Cameron (Stephanie) Taylor, Kristirose White, Chase Taylor, Kery (Kelly) White, Kari Vik, and Gunnar Vik; 5 great grandchildren, Liva, Henry, Jack, Trenton and Prestyn; sister Donna (Austin) Pitcher of Eugene; brothers Bob (Mary) Stageberg of Lake Oswego, and Steve Stageberg of Fredericksburg, Virginia. A sister, Ardelle Kerr, died previously.A service will be held at Central Lutheran Church on Cleo’s 89th birthday at 2:OO pm, Wednesday, November 6. Memorial Contributions may be made to Central Lutheran Music Program, Cascade Hospice of Eugene, or the charity of one’s choice.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
