Obituary of Benton Hofferber

Ben Hofferber, 92, of Eugene, Oregon passed away November 9, 2013 of age related causes.Benton Hofferber was born in Lexington, Nebraska to Fred and Blanch Hofferber on June 19, 1921. He was the first of five children. He moved to Oregon at age 20 with a family friend looking for milder weather and new adventures. Benton joined the Army in 1942 and served overseas in France, Germany, Belgium and England during World War II with the 255th Ordinance.In 1943 he married Ellen Hallen in Lexington whom he had met in Winnipeg, Canada while in Army training. They settled in Eugene, Oregon after his discharge from the Army in 1945. They had 3 children, Sharon, Charlene and Benton Jr.Benton worked for both Kraft Foods and Williams Bakery in Eugene before retiring in 1984. He loved gardening and took pride in both his rose garden and fruit tree orchard.Ben also spent a great deal of time with his family and grandchildren. Always considered a bit of a jokester, Ben was well liked and respected by friends and colleagues alike.His wife Ellen passed away in 1988 and he later married Freda Low in 1990. Freda and Ben enjoyed spending winters in Arizona but always returned to Florence, Oregon where they called home. Freda passed away in 2010 and Ben moved back to Eugene in 2012 to be closer to family.Ben was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth. He is survived by siblings Peg (Eugene), Sandra (Charles) and Larry; his three children, Sharon, Charlene and Benton Jr. “Skip”; 8 grandchildren, Philip (Christina), Jennifer (Marc), Sara (Cory), Rebecca (Adam), Matthew (Alicia), Jason, Sean (Stephanie), Emily (Jeff) and 12 great grandchildren (Matt, Nick, Kenneth, Andrew, Megan, Nora, Hannah, Jenna, Ellie, Maya, Noah, and Preston).A Gathering for family and friends will be on Friday, November 22nd at 3:00 at Roaring Rapids Pizza.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
