Obituary of James C. Van Nada

James C. Van Nada, age 96, of Eugene, died Nov. 18, 2013. He was born July 18, 1917 in E. St. Louis, IL to James and Letha (Schark) Van Nada. He taught in Los Angeles City Schools and was a Teacher and Counselor, 1947-1980. Jim has a degree in Aeronautical Engineering La City College BA, MA in Secondary School Administration from Occidental College in Los Angeles. He married Janet Cochran Haff on Dec. 24, 1975 in So. Pasadena, CA. Jim served in the US Air Force during WWII, from 1941-1945 as a fighter pilot with 3/5 years of combat duty in the Pacific area. He was the commanding officer of a P51 Mustang Fighter Squadron on Iwo Jima at the close the war. He retired from the Air Force Reserve in 1975 with 23 years of service and the rank of Lt. Colonel. Jim is survived by his wife, Janet; two sons: James Van Nada Jr. and Richard Van Nada of Moultrie GA; step-son, Charles (Karen) Haff Jr. of Edina, MN; and 3 grandchildren. He will be inurned at Willamette National Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Disabled American Veterans.
