Obituary of Betty Lajoie
Betty Lajoie, 74, from Eugene died November 23, 2013, of Parkinson’s disease. Betty was born on November 5, 1939 in Chicago, Illinois to Ethel and Samuel Knight. She was the third of three sisters. After moving around with her family, they finally settled in Roseburg where she graduated from high school. She graduated from Oregon State University in 1961 with a degree in Education. Betty married Darwin Lajoie on June 3, 1961 in Corvallis, OR. She taught locally at Howard Elementary School and later substituted throughout the 4J district. Betty enjoyed singing barbershop music with the Greater Eugene Sweet Adelines Chorus and was an active member of the Eugene Horseless Carriage Club. Her hobbies include collecting depression era glass, geneology and spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by Darwin, her husband of 52 years, her 3 children: David (Raymond Maurer) of Junction City, Darrin (Molly) and Darci Francia (Bruno) of Eugene, her sisters Bernice Hallford of Lake Havasu, Arizona and Patricia Haft (Pete) of Rocklin, California and 7 grandchildren; Kelcey Lajoie, Karina Francia, Krysta Lajoie, Pierre-Michael Francia, Kameron Lajoie, Nicolas Francia & Kyler Lajoie. The service will be Friday, November 29, 2013 at 11am at West Lawn Memorial Funeral Home in Eugene with a reception to follow.
