Obituary of Ruth Darkins

Ruth Virginia "Ginny" Darkins, 82 of Eugene Oregon passed away November 21, 2013. She was born on September 30, 1931 to Stanley and Hattie (Cummins) Keyes in Eugene. Her pioneer family was one of the first to settle in the Willamette Valley dating back to the mid-1800s. Ginny received her education from the Springfield public schools and was a 1949 graduate of Springfield High School.She was introduced to Ronald Darkins through mutual friends. They were wed on February 14, 1950 in Eugene. They moved to Arizona while Ronald served in the military for several years. Returning to Oregon they started their family; first they had a son, Roger, followed by a daughter, Janette.Ginny was never one to sit still. In the summers there were gardens to plant and beans to pick. Winters were filled with square dancing, bowling and card games. Once the casinos opened she enjoyed going with family and friends to test her luck against the video poker machines. Ginny’s family and friends were the most important thing to her. She planned many family reunions and birthday parties always making everyone feel wanted and loved.She leaves behind her husband Ronald of 63 years; son Roger and daughter-in-law Lenore; daughter Janette Jones and son-in-law David; three grandchildren Ryan, Philip and Marissa; a sister, Elsie Cooley and numerous family members and friends who will miss her dearly.Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 30, at West Lawn Memorial Funeral Home starting with visitation 10:30 AM with a service to follow at 11:30.
