Obituary of Leatrice Coleman

Leatrice "Lee" J. Coleman, RN, MSN, died peacefully at her home in Eugene, Oregon on November 23, 2013. She was born in Keithsburg, Illinois, along the Mississippi River, to Lester and Myldred Coleman on October 21, 1925. After graduating from high school in Keithsburg she left the tiny town and continued her education, graduating from nursing school in Moline, Illinois. She worked in hospitals in Chicago starting as a nurse and then becoming appointed as Director of Nursing. While she loved her profession itself, she also loved the fact that she was able to travel and see the world as part of it. She enjoyed her time in Europe greatly. She later joined the Joint Commission, visiting and inspecting hospitals all over the United States. She had visited her sister and brother-in-law in Eugene often and retired here in 1998. Lee was very interested in politics, world events and travel, loving Oregon in all its aspects. Her last overseas trip was to Vietnam. She was involved in book groups and active in Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI). She is survived by her sister, Lois Hopper of Springfield, Oregon. Lee is and will be sorely missed by all her friends. Special thanks to all of her care givers from Signature Hospice and At Home Care for their excellent end-of-life care and compassion.Arrangements entrusted to Musgrove Family Mortuary.
